The Renzulli Model of Schoolwide Enrichment is rooted in several important beliefs:
- Giftedness is not a static trait; rather, it is a set of behaviors that can, and should, be nurtured and facilitated.
- GIftedness takes many forms and is not easily quantifiable for all high-ability students.
- Enjoyment, engagement, and enthusiasm lead to achievement
My goals for 2-5 Enrichment are:
- to foster a sense of wonder and excitement about the world
- to ignite students' creativity, critical reasoning, and divergent thinking skills
- to expose students to a wide range of knowledge and perspectives through both teacher-facilitated integrated units of study and opportunities for student-led learning
- to help students find new interests and talents
- to help students develop the "soft skills" that will allow them to better express their abilities throughout their lives
- to provide students with opportunities to pursue their own interests
- to, in short, build lifelong learners!
Work in Enrichment and Mini-Course are typically open-ended enough for students to work at their own pace and find challenges appropriate to their abilities.
My goal is to allow time within the school day for students to engage in more self-directed learning opportunities, as well.
Some projects will be more teacher-guided, and those will generally be specifically differentiated through process, product, or both. Differentiation encompasses additional support and/ or acceleration, guided and scaffolded by teachers, as needed.
Students will generally have a choice as to what projects they'll work on, and how.
