Mini-Course units are pull-out opportunities for students in grades 3 - 5 who exhibit high abilities and gifted behaviors. Students *choose* to participate in Mini-Course, which is a departure from many models of gifted education.
These units are integrative, meaning they weave together multiple subject areas, skills, and learning styles to create rich, meaningful learning experiences. The content and processes of Mini-Course are differentiated for advanced learners; content is advanced beyond grade level expectations and work is inquiry-based.
Follow our blog to see what the kids are working on during Mini-Course, as well as during Enrichment.
Families will receive a letter detailing all Mini-Course units their children participate in at each unit's start. These letters will detail the curriculum skills and "soft skills" for each unit, as well as any other pertinent details. All students in grades 3 - 5 who are identified AIG will have the opportunity to participate in Mini-Course, but unlike most other schools' pullout programs, students who are not identified AIG but who display particular aptitude and interest in the topics of a specific Mini Course will also be invited to participate. Again, students will be given the opportunity to opt in (or opt out) for each specific Mini Course opportunity.
